Adcock Contracting’s main source of work is service trenching for power upgrades, we’ve spent the last 10years growing the business to suit this work.
T Packages
In 2019 we took on T Packages for Independent Line Services and Orion. T Packages are a bundle of smaller dig ups, exposing power cables and the “T” joint where a house service is connected to the mains cable. Each package can range from 2weeks to 8weeks worth of trenching and reinstatement. Trenching in suburban areas of Christchurch, we’ve opened up thousands of Joint Pits, Trenches and Distribution Boxes. After the dig up, Independent Line Services comes in to install distribution boxes & do all the cable jointing. Our crew then backfill & reinstate all the work. We pride ourselves in reinstating all our work to a high quality and are well versed in the council specifications.
Main Trenching Contracts
We’re a preferred subcontractor for Power upgrade trenching in Christchurch. Our main contracts involve trenching, opening joint pits, distribution boxes and Kiosks.
We are diligent in providing a safe & efficient job. We use our GPR and Cable locator to mark out services in our work space, we use our Hydrovac to cross section & confirm offsets + expose services we’ll be crossing.
We own 4 diggers designed for trenching in tight spaces with specially designed trenching spade buckets.
We own-
-2Tonne Bobcat
-2.6Tonne Bobcat
-5.5Tonne Bobcat
-10Tonne Yanmar
All our diggers come with the full range of buckets, rubber tracks and are zero tail swing. We are ready for any trenching job big or small.

Part of our services includes locating underground Power & Phone cables to ensure the safest job possible. We order service plans and use our wand locator to pick up and trace cables. To find other services such as water, drains & sewer we use our Ground Penetrating Radar (GPR). The GPR also picks up buried concrete & other rubbish, locating before opening anything up gives us some insight to what we may come across.
-
Earthing is a new service started last year. We’ve set up our 5.5T Digger to ram 40mm steel earthing rod.
We do site welding and testing to the Orion standards.

Airwand
The air wand & Vac system helps us dig around services safely & efficiently. It uses compressed air to loosens up the material and makes it easy to dig in all types of ground, it is a sought after machine for effortlessly digging around tree roots. It comes with a vacuum trolley that sucks the material up, we also hand-dig the material out or use the Hydro to suck it out. Using the air helps minimize damage to services and tree roots, it’s also used for sinking poles in difficult to excavate ground.
Hydrovac
With the success of the airwand and the demand for Hydrovac systems growing, Geoff invested in a 3T Hydrovac system. The Hydro is, in basic terms, a waterblaster and a vacuum cleaner - It loosens the ground with high PSI water and sucks it up. Like the air system, we use the hydro for the difficult dig ups, cross sectioning, opening up in front of kiosks, sucking out bollard holes and getting around and under services. We also have duct attachments to clear material out of existing ducts.
-
We install bollards to protect kiosks & Distribution boxes from being damaged. We drill or Hydro the hole down and set them with concrete. We take our time and are meticulous with getting it right.
We can install them anywhere you want and follow the council specifications and requirements.
-
Each of our excavators have hydraulic drill attachments. We prefer to use the 5.5T or 10T digger to drill pole holes. We locate services and drill down to the specified depth efficiently and as tidy as possible.
Depending on the clients needs we can install, concrete or backfill around the pole/post and reinstate the surface as well.
-
The Mole tunneling machine is used to install ducting underneath areas a client doesn’t want damaged - eg established gardens, driveways, roads, structures and sections.
We have -
130mm Diameter Mole - Used to install 100mm Diameter duct.
65mm Diameter Mole- Used to install 50mm Diameter duct.
55mm Diameter Mole - Used to tunnel in clay/soil leaving an open tunnel and threading or pulling a cable through without the need for ducting.
We open up a pit to start the machine in and a pit to exit the machine. We use levels and expertise to set the machine and monitor it whilst it runs. The machine is run by our air compressor and pushes itself through the ground whilst dragging the duct behind.
We can do longer than 24m but it would require another set of pits.
-
A lot of our trenching reinstatement is prepping and sealing to the council specifications. We are well versed in the specifications, we pride ourselves in prep as it helps guarantee the best asphalt finish.
We can replace your driveway or footpath by pulling up the old surface, re prepping and compacting and finish the top. We can build new drives or footpaths, box or edge with whatever you want and finish with decorative stones, chip, concrete or asphalt.
-
Adcock contracting specializes in removing trees & stumps that are around services. We use the hydrovac to excavate around stumps and expose services, then cut the roots away safely with a chainsaw, saber saw or hand saws. We then lift the stump out or use the ripper attachment to rip out roots once we are happy there’s no services at risk.
We can pull down trees and have them carted away or left behind for fire wood. We don’t trim trees just remove them.
-
We’ve completed many concrete removals over the years. Our compressor has an air breaker for the small concrete removals and we use Excavator compatible hydraulic breaker for the larger removals. We cut and break the concrete into manageable pieces and dispose of them correctly.
We can complete your house and shed demolition needs with ease. We strip the house of anything that’s reusable or can be recycled and pull it down with our diggers. We keep the job tidy and make sure it’s completed as safe as possible.
-
On top of the services already listed we can complete any other landscaping required. We can scrape out your property and build it to whatever you need.
We can build retaining walls & garden beds with any trim you like + decks and entertainment areas. We can finish your section with topsoil & seed (or readylawn). We can put up fences and build ponds.
-
We enjoy getting out of town and working on farms and lifestyle blocks. We build roads, cow races, pole sheds and horse arenas. We can supply paddocks with irrigation pipe, water troughs and other water needs. We build drains and effluent systems. We can provide any farm maintenance needs such as paddock flipping, hump & hollow, land clearing and levelling.
